AFRICAN DIASPORA FIRST FRUITS FESTIVAL 2016
This colourful “First Fruits Festival” is a harvest thanks giving festival that is similar to the crop over celebration. However, the ‘First Fruits Festival’ in a pre colonial African tradition, signals the beginning of the yearly harvest and thanking God for the blessings through first fruits offerings, exhibited joy, and community display. Also, no alcohol or vulgar music will be allowed. The celebration is a very culturally based occasion, tying individual communities together as an essentially agrarian society who is dependent on local harvest.
The “First Fruits Festival”, focuses on human development and it offers a positive contribution to culture and development of the people in our society. At the festival, agricultural challenges, and social ills such as violence and drugs will be addressed and solutions presented. The major attractions will include agriculture, cuisine, sports, fine arts, health, dance, African fashion and natural hair care competitions. Additionally, there will be heritage presentations such as spooge music and traditional Bajan cultural games. Activities will be encapsulated in a thanks giving environment. At the end of the evening, we will have a peace fest with the theme “ Increase the peace “ .
Get involved !
Peace !
