68th Anniversary of the United Nations Partition of Palestine
On the 68th anniversary of the United Nations partition of Palestine, the group "Caribbean Against Apartheid in Palestine" [CAAP] held a public meeting and film show on Saturday the 28th November 2015, at the Venezuelan Institute in Hastings, Barbados.
Amongst the attendees were Their Excellencies the Ambassadors for Cuba and Venezuela. [See the attached photograph taken on the night].
The speakers included David Denny from the Network in Defence of the Caribbean; Lalu Hanuman, Secretary of CAAP; and Shaheera Mohamad who presented a photographic slide show on her recent visit to Palestine. The meeting was chaired by Peter Ashan, Chairperson of CAAP.
The meeting called upon Barbados to follow the lead of most of Caricom, and recognise the State of Palestine.
Lalu Hanuman metaphorically described Israel as the rock that has been thrown into the Middle Eastern pond, the ripples from which have created both Middle Eastern and global instability and conflict, not least by the heavy militarisation of the sub-region, and he asserted that Israel was ultimately causative of the Syrian conflict and consequent refugee crisis, and the rise of al-Qaeda and ISIS.
While Israel continues to flout international law, and commits daily atrocities against Palestinians, and condemns Palestinians to a seemingly endless life in miserable refugee camps, America and Western countries continue to give apartheid Israel both military and diplomatic protection. Justice in Palestine, is the clear and obvious pre-requisite for stopping the rise of Jihadism.
